The Crown Prince and Princess of Denmark commemorate Flag Day

The Crown Prince and Princes of Denmark have marked Flag Day honouring Danish soldiers who have been deployed on missions abroad.

Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary attended engagements in Kastellet, in Holmens Church and at Christiansborg Slotsplads in Copenhagen.

First, the Crown Prince and Princess laid a wreath at a service at the Monument for Denmark’s International Efforts after 1948 at the Kastellet before attending a church service at Holmens Church for those who have fallen in service abroad. The couple joined in singing ‘Always Brazen When You Go,’ a hymn to salute the fallen. At the church service, the royal couple were joined by both Danish dignitaries and Norwegian dignitaries.

According to the Danish Royal House’s Instagram, “Around 1,000 Danish soldiers, who have been deployed on international missions since 2021, were honoured today for their efforts at a large parade at Christiansborg Slotsplads.”

Crown Prince Frederik inspected the troops before the parade began, viewing as part of ‘Crown Prince Frederik’s Honour March’ before the troops did a full-speed march for the Crown Prince Couple and gathered dignitaries.

Flag Day honours everyone who has been deployed “from the Defence, Emergency Response, Police, Foreign Ministry and Health Services,” according to the Danish Royal House, and also recognises the families of those who are deployed.

Flag Day was founded in Demark in 2009 and honours those who have been deployed abroad since 1948. In an interview with DK, the former Minister of Defence, Trine Bramsen, said, “We still send soldiers on missions around the world, and as long as we are still doing that, we need to show our respect for those stationed abroad. It is so important, and tribute should really be paid to those who put our values of freedoms before themselves and serve abroad.”
