Princess Catharina-Amalia paid tribute to the queens who came before her at Tuesday evening’s state banquet in honour of the President and First Lady of Germany.
At the glittering banquet, Princess Amalia chose to wear the Dutch Star tiara, made famous by her mother on her wedding day in 2002. The diamond star embellishments were a wedding present to Queen Emma on her wedding day in 1879; and the base is from the Pearl Button tiara.

Her diamond earrings originally belonged to Queen Juliana; and her diamond bracelet belonged to Queen Wilhelmina. To complement her jewels, Princess Amalia chose a pale blue gown by Rachel Gilbert that featured a corseted bodice and shoulder straps to emphasise the narrow silhouette.
Over the bodice of her gown, the newly-gifted Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany was on display.
Queen Máxima, meanwhile, wore dazzling diamond and sapphires from Queen Emma’s sapphire parure.

The Queen Emma Sapphire Parure tiara dates back to 1881, when it was designed by Maison van der Stichel. It features more than 600 diamonds and sapphires set in tall spire formations; and its central sapphire can be removed and worn as a brooch or hair comb, weighing in at 44 carats.
Queen Máxima complemented the Sapphire Parure tiara with two of its bracelets, set in diamonds and sapphires; and a bow brooch pinned to the waist of her Jan Taminiau gown.
The President of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier and his wife, Elke Büdenbender, are on a three-day State Visit to the Netherlands to reaffirm the “political, economic and cultural-historical levels” between the neighbouring countries.
After their arrival in Amsterdam, and the welcoming ceremony there; King Willem-Alexander, Queen Máxima and the German couple visited the National Holocaust Museum to attend a discussion with the Jewish community.
Following their visit, they stopped in to the Resto VanHarte to learn more about their social initiatives. The full programme can be viewed here.
