The Coronation Big Lunch gets royal support around the country as the celebrations continue

Coronation celebrations continued over the special Bank Holiday weekend in the United Kingdom. The day after the spectacular ceremony at Westminster Abbey saw many members of the Royal Family attended Coronation Big Lunches across England. 

The Prince and Princess of Wales surprised community members in Windsor as they joined a Big Lunch on the Long Walk at Windsor. They chatted with well-wishers and took selfies as they mingled in the crowd. 

The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh attended a street party in Cranleigh, Surrey and tried some Coronation chicken pie before meeting with representatives from the Royal British Legion, the Scouts, and the Guides. 

Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie attended a Coronation Big Lunch together as well in Chalfont St Giles, Buckinghamshire. 

The Princess Royal and her husband, Sir Timothy Laurence also attended a Big Lunch in Wiltshire. They joined residents in Swindon for tea and cakes as the celebrations continued.

The Big Lunch is a community event that was launched in 2009. The Eden Project developed the idea to bring communities and neighbours together over shared meals and celebrations and encourages communities to gather at least once a year to help foster connections and fight loneliness. 

The Queen became Patron of the Big Lunch in 2015 when she was Duchess of Cornwall and has attended several Big Lunches since. 

The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations included a Big Jubilee Lunch. Communities across the United Kingdom gathered to mark the late Queen’s 70 years on the throne, and surveys following showed that the Big Jubilee Lunch was incredibly successful. 

Eleven million people said that gathering for a Jubilee Lunch helped them feel less lonely, two-thirds of participants said that more people were encouraged to start volunteering, and 92% of organisers said that the event had a possible effect in their communities. 

Over 67,000 Big Lunches were planned across the UK as thousands of communities came together to celebrate the Coronation together.
