New photos of Prince George and Princess Charlotte released

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have released four new official photographs of Prince George and Princess Charlotte, taken by the Duchess in mid-May while they were staying at their country home Anmer Hall, in Norfolk.

The pictures each show Prince George and Princess Charlotte together, with Prince George holding Charlotte.

The first official photos of Prince George were taken by his grandfather Michael Middleton in the back garden of the Middletons’ family home in Bucklebury, released just a month after his birth back in 2013. The new photos, including Princess Charlotte, have also been released a month after her birth.

In deference to the rise of social media, Kensington Palace also made special arrangements to have one of the photos tweeted an hour ahead of their formal release, having announced this earlier in the day. The photo was tweeted and put on Instagram ahead of time as a thank you to the thousands of people who followed the Kensington Palace accounts since their launch, and during the birth of Princess Charlotte.

Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana was born at 8:34am in the Lindo Wing of St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington after The Duchess was admitted there just after 6am in the early stages of labour. From birth, she is placed fourth in the line of succession following her brother Prince George and pushing uncle Prince Harry down to fifth.

Letters patent by Her Majesty in 2012 mean that all the children of Prince William and Catherine carry the title of Prince or Princess. Had these letters patent not been given, only Prince George would hold the title of Prince while Charlotte would have been Lady.

Since shortly after the birth, the Cambridges have been staying at their country home, Anmer Hall, in Norfolk as Prince William begins his new job as an Air Ambulance pilot for East Anglia Air Ambulance, having completed his first phase training for the job. Anmer Hall is situated just a few miles from Her Majesty’s country retreat, Sandringham House and sits in the quaint village of Anmer in the county of Norfolk. In its current form, the house dates back to around 1802 and has formed a part of the Sandringham Estate since 1898.

William recently returned to work back to work with the East Anglian Air Ambulance after a four-week paternity leave following the birth of his second child.

The father of two took unpaid leave from his job as a pilot with the EAAA ahead of the birth of Princess Charlotte. Since his daughter’s birth William has been at home with his family although continuing to carry out numerous royal engagements.

Princess Charlotte’s christening details were also announced yesterday. Kensington Palace says the one-month old Princess will be christened at St Mary Magdalene Church near Sandringham House, The Queen’s country retreat. She’ll be following in the footsteps of her grandmother Diana, Princess of Wales, who was christened there and more recently, cousin Princess Eugenie in 1990.

The last official photos released from the Cambridges were the three official Christmas photos released in December by the couple of Prince George, taken at Kensington Palace.

Today’s photos are the first time that Princess Charlotte and Prince George have been photographed together.

While the Cambridges have no new engagements scheduled for the next week, they will be in attendance at the annual Queen’s Birthday Parade in London on 13th June. However Prince George and Princess Charlotte are not expected to accompany them.
