New family photo released of Bhutan’s Royal Family

The Royal Office in Bhutan has released a new family photo of the King and Queen of Bhutan with their son, the Dragon Prince.

The image was taken in February 2020 in the Throne Room of the Tashichhodzong in Thimphu.

King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck married Queen Jetsun Pema in 2011. Together, they have one son, Prince Jigme Namgyel Wangchuck (also called the Dragon Prince) who turned four last month.

The Queen is expecting the couple’s second child, due in the spring. An exact month has not been revealed by the Royal Office.

The new official photo also features on the March calendar for Yellow Bhutan.

Yellow Bhutan said about this month’s calendar, “We are delighted to share this Kupar of Their Majesties and His Royal Highness The Gyalsey, featured on the calendar for March 2020- a very special Losar gift.  In the coming spring, we look forward to the birth of the Second Royal Child of Their Majesties and wish everyone a wonderful year ahead.

“On this special occasion, we offer our love and gratitude, and our pledge of loyalty and service for the country, to His Majesty The King, our guiding light and beacon of inspiration.”

The calendar, available on Macs, PCs, smartphones and tablets, can be downloaded for free here.
