Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit in matching outfits for major sports event

Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit are embracing the cold weather of the last days of winter together.

The Norwegian Crown Prince and Crown Princess chose coordinating red ski-jackets to attend the opening ceremony of the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2025 at Torvet in Trondheim.

They joined the thousands of crowd members to help launch the eleven day cross-country skiing competition and were on stage for the opening ceremony.

Despite having a difficult last year in their family with Crown Princess Mette Marit’s son, Marius Borg Hoiby, facing legal issues, in addition to King Harald and Queen Sonja facing health troubles, the royal couple looked happy to be there celebrating.

This is the sixth time that Norway has hosted the competition, and it is the second time that Trondheim has hosted it. There will be 27 separate events included this year.

Norwegian musical artist Gunhild Sundli was on hand to perform the official song, “What We Love”. The competition’s official mascot, Snedi, was also there. Over 350 musicians, dancers, and performers took part in the opening ceremonies that finished off with a stunning fireworks display.

King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden later joined the Crown Prince couple to cheer on the competitors.
