Future queen of the Netherlands steals show at State Banquet

King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands have welcomed Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa for a two day state visit. The Dutch King and Queen hosted a State Banquet where the Princess of Orange stole the show.

Queen Maxima made a statement with her jewels and gown, as always. In a repeated burgundy, ombre gown with geometric details, the Dutch Queen wore the Mellerio Ruby Tiara and Necklace. These diamond and ruby pieces are from the Mellerio Ruby Parure, a stunning set that Queen Emma received as a birthday gift in the 1880s.

However, despite the Dutch Queen’s elegant bid to be the lady in red, it was the Princess of Orange who stole the show.

Princess Catharina-Amalia wore a stunning sequined gown in a vibrant lavender, complete with a dramatic floor-length cape. The dress, designed by Tadashi Shoji, was full of sparkle – perfect for a young princess.

Known by her family as Princess Amalia, the Princess of Orange chose to wear a beloved family tiara for the event. She chose the Dutch Button Tiara for the event, which is not only the first tiara she ever wore but also the tiara that her mother wore on her wedding day.

The Dutch Button Tiara utilises the base of the Pearl Button Tiara and adds five, ten-pointed diamond stars on the top. Queen Emma received the diamond stars as a wedding gift in 1881.

Princess Amalia also wore a simple but striking diamond collet necklace and diamond drop earrings.

The Princess of Orange is quickly establishing herself as a fashion mainstay.
