Queen Camilla paid a special tribute to Queen Elizabeth II as she took part in a project that turned from celebration to commemoration of Her Late Majesty.
The Queen Consort planted a hawthorn which became part of the Queen’s Green Canopy.
The Queen’s Green Canopy was set up to mark the Platinum Jubilee and saw thousands of people plant a tree to mark the 70 year reign of Queen Elizabeth II. Following Her Late Majesty’s death, on September 8th 2022, the project was renewed to become a commemoration of her life and service.
Queen Camilla planted the latest tree during a visit to Lacock in Wiltshire.
The hawthorn was planted in the grounds of St. Cyriac’s church in Lackock. The church has a special significance for Queen Camilla as her daughter, Laura, married Harry Lopes there in 2006.
Her Majesty had some special helpers during her visit to Lackock – her dogs, Bluebell and Beth, were at her side and enjoyed a pat and some fuss from Queen Camilla as she continued her engagements in the picturesque village.
The visit to Lacock was part of a day of engagements in the area which also saw Her Majesty open new offices for the Royal Osteoporosis Society of which she is President. Research and work around osteoporosis is very important to Her Majesty as both her mother and maternal grandmother died with the illness.
