Princess Märtha Louise of Norway and the American shaman Durek Verrett are engaged.
Their engagement was announced on the morning of June 7th 2022 via a press release.
No date has yet been set for the wedding, and the couple will continue to live on different continents in the future.
Durek Verrett will not get a Norwegian royal title, but will be regarded as a member of the extended royal family after he has married the Princess.
The newly engaged couple writes: “Love does not judge where you come from or who you are as a human being. Love creates a bridge between people, cultures and religions. And we are happy to have found each other, across continents, ethnicity and social background”.
King Harald, Queen Sonja, Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette Marit have sent their official congratulations. The Norwegian Royal Court states: “His Majesty the King and Her Majesty the Queen send their most heartfelt congratulations to Princess Märtha Louise and Durek Verrett on the occasion of their engagement, and wish them all the best for the future”.
The couple is currently in Los Angeles, where Durek Verrett, also known as shaman Durek, lives.
In an interview with Vanity Fair magazine in November 2020, Verrett said that he had received the blessing of King Harald to propose to the princess. The King and Queen of Norway replied that they do not decide who the princess will marry.
