Queen Margrethe has sent The Queen a message of congratulations as Platinum Jubilee kicks off, praising her as an “unfaltering presence and a pillar of strength.”
In her message, released earlier this morning, Queen Margrethe writes:
“Please accept my warmest congratulations on your Platinum Jubilee, marking 70 years of reign, service and unwavering devotion to the people of the United Kingdom, the Realms and the Commonwealth.
“This unprecedented and remarkable achievement is indeed historic. It underlines the importance of the Monarchy as a strong symbol of national identity and historic continuity in a rapidly changing modern world, where many of our citizens struggle to keep abreast with the pace and risk losing their peace of mind and sense of belonging.
“Throughout these many years Your Majesty has been an unfaltering presence and a pillar of strength, encouraging and inspiring, whatever the circumstances.
“I wish Your Majesty and the people of the United Kingdom, the Realms and the Commonwealth a joyful celebration over the coming days.”
In May, the Danish queen sat down for an interview with ITV News and spoke of her respect for The Queen, saying that “When I was growing up, I hoped I wouldn’t be as young as that when my father died. It made an enormous impression on me. The fact that she was dedicating her life. I understood what that meant. This is for life. That is the whole point of my life. And I know she sees that too.”
She added that she admires The Queen for the way she has “faced her duties, the way she has dedicated her life, and she does it with a smile. She has been through many things.”
Queen Margrethe is also celebrating a jubilee this year; in January she marked 50 years on the Danish throne. Due to the ongoing pandemic, her jubilee celebrations have been paused and will resume in the autumn.
