In this series, Royal Central is taking a look at the grandchildren of monarchs around the world. In this instalment, we’re heading to the United Kingdom to introduce the eight grandchildren of Queen Elizabeth II.
Children of Prince Charles and Diana, Princess of Wales

William Arthur Philip Louis is the elder son of the Prince of Wales and Diana, Princess of Wales, born 21 June 1982 in London. As such, he is expected to inherit the British throne and has, since birth, been second in line to the throne.
On his wedding day, 29 April 2011, William was created the Duke of Cambridge. He is a member of several prestigious role positions, including as a member of the Privy Council of the United Kingdom and a Personal Aide-de-Camp of The Queen, as well as membership in the Order of the Garter and the Order of the Thistle.
William is married to Catherine, The Duchess of Cambridge, and together they have three children: Prince George, seven; Princess Charlotte, five; and Prince Louis, two. His main areas of focus include environmentalism, mental health awareness, working with frontline responders, homelessness, and sports.
Harry, Duke of Sussex
Harry Charles Albert David was born on 15 September 1984, the younger son of Prince Charles and Diana, Princess of Wales.
Harry spent a decade serving in the military and was deployed twice to Afghanistan in that time. He left the military in 2015 to focus on his royal work full-time and used his platform to advocate for mental health, veterans and service members, and HIV/AIDS awareness, among other programs. In 2014, he created the Invictus Games, a Paralympics-style competition for injured service members and veterans.
On 18 May 2018, he married Meghan Markle, an American actress at St George’s Chapel in Windsor. Together, they became The Duke and Duchess of Sussex and have one son, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, born in 2019; their second child, a girl, is due later this year.
In 2020, Harry and Meghan announced their intention to step back from full-time royal duties and carve out their own path. They moved to Montecito, California and launched the Archewell Foundation and Archewell Audio studio, which will focus on production deals and podcasts.
Children of Prince Andrew and Sarah, Duchess of York

The elder daughter of The Duke and Duchess of York, Beatrice Elizabeth Mary was born on 8 August 1988. She carries out no official royal duties and instead works as the Vice President of Partnerships and Strategy at Afiniti. However, she does charity work and holds patronages on her own behalf. She became the first member of the Royal Family to take part in the London Marathon, which she ran in 2010.
On 17 July 2020, Beatrice married Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, an Italian property developer in a small, scaled-back ceremony at the Royal Chapel of All Saints at Windsor Castle due to the coronavirus pandemic. She has a stepson, Wolfie, from the union. The family lives and works in London.
Princess Eugenie, Mrs Jack Brooksbank
Princess Eugenie Victoria Helena was born on 30 March 1990, the younger child of The Duke and Duchess of York. She grew up with scoliosis, which was later corrected through surgery, resulting in her work on behalf of scoliosis awareness and research. She works as a director at the Hauser & Wirth art gallery in London and carries out no official royal duties on behalf of her grandmother.
In October 2018, she married long-time boyfriend Jack Brooksbank at St George’s Chapel in Windsor, and together they have a son, August Philip Hawke Brooksbank, born 9 February 2021 in London.
Children of The Earl and Countess of Wessex

James Alexander Philip Theo Mountbatten-Windsor is the younger child of the Earl and Countess of Wessex, born on 17 December 2007. He was christened in a replica of the original christening gown that had been used for every royal birth since 1840. He is technically entitled to the style of a prince, as the grandson of the monarch in the male line, but is styled as the son of an earl and uses his father’s subsidiary title, Viscount Severn.
James, like his sister, carries out no official royal duties and only accompanies his parents to the rarest of engagements. He is typically spotted at family events like Trooping the Colour. He attends Eagle House School near his home in Bagshot Park.
Lady Louise Windsor
Lady Louise Alice Elizabeth Mary Mountbatten-Windsor was born on 8 November 2003 following a difficult labour and cesarian delivery to the Earl and Countess of Wessex. Lady Louise was not styled as a princess at birth, though she would have been entitled to it as the granddaughter of a monarch in the male line. Her parents wished for their children to have normal childhoods and careers, so Louise goes by the style of a daughter of an earl.
Louise’s introduction to the global public came in 2011, as a member of the bridal party for William and Catherine’s wedding. She carries out the rarest of royal engagements, usually only accompanying her parents when it fits with her interests, but otherwise, only appears at family events like weddings, Christmas festivities, or Trooping the Colour. She is an avid horse rider and carriage driver, like her grandparents, The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh.
Children of The Princess Royal and Mark Phillips

The Queen’s first grandson, Peter Mark Andrew, was born on 15 November 1977. He is the elder child of Princess Anne and Mark Phillips and currently works as a businessman. He carries out no official royal duties but is seen at family events, and helps plan events. In 2016, he helped organise the Patron’s Lunch for his grandmother’s 90th birthday, which saw a hamper picnic and parade take place at The Mall outside Buckingham Palace.
Peter married Autumn Kelly, a Canadian businesswoman, on 17 May 2008. The couple have two daughters together: Savannah (The Queen’s first great-grandchild), born 29 December 2010; and Isla, born 29 March 2012. The couple announced their separation on 11 February 2020, stating that they had been separated since 2019 and that they intended to divorce.
Zara Tindall
The Queen’s first granddaughter, Zara Anne Elizabeth, was born on 15 May 1981. She is the younger child of Princess Anne and Mark Phillips. An avid equestrian, Zara won a silver medal at the 2012 Olympic Games in London in the team events and was presented with her medal by her mother. Zara carries out no official royal duties but supports charities involving equestrianism and sports.
Zara is married to Mike Tindall, a former rugby player, and together they have three children: Mia, born 17 January 2014; Lena, born 18 June 2018; and Lucas, born 21 March 2021.
