With things changing by the day and sometimes by the hour, it is hard to keep up with what events are still taking place and what events have been postponed or cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Below is a running list of royal events across Europe that have been cancelled or postponed. The list will be constantly updated as more announcements are made from the royal houses.
Several members of the royal houses are members of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), and the 2020 Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo have been postponed.
Belgium:
The King and Queen’s state visit to Italy due to take place this month was postponed.
Princess Elisabeth will return to Belgium from her school in Wales.
The King and Queen will dramatically limit the duties they undertake in the near future.
Denmark:
Queen Margrethe’s 80th birthday celebrations in April have been cancelled.
The Royal House has cancelled all other events in their diary.
Eswatini:
The King’s birthday celebrations have been cancelled and the funds that were to be used for it will now be used to fight the virus.
Japan:
The State Visit of the Emperor and Empress of Japan to the UK has been postponed.
Banquets to celebrate Crown Prince Fumihito’s elevation as the heir to the throne are cancelled.
The 36th Japan Prize that the Emperor and Empress were due to attend is cancelled.
Luxembourg:
The incoming state visit from the Republic of Cabo Verde has been postponed to a later date.
The Luxembourgish royals are taking each of their personal events day by day and cancel them as advised. A visit to the National Library of Luxembourg was cancelled and an official visit by His Excellency Xavier Espot Zamora was postponed, as was an audience with Maria Teresa Fernández de la Vega.
Monaco:
The Monaco Grand Prix, which the Princely Family attends, has been postponed. Prince Albert of Monaco has tested positive for COVID-19.
Netherlands:
King’s Day, scheduled for 27 April, has been cancelled.
The Centenary Reception of the Anglo-Netherlands Society due to be attended by Princess Beatrix of the Netherlands and the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester was cancelled.
The King and Queen’s state visit to Germany is postponed until further notice.
Norway:
All events are cancelled until Easter.
Spain:
The King and Queen’s state visit to the US has been postponed.
Sweden:
Crown Princess Victoria’s Name Day on 12 March was cancelled for the public.
The Swedish Royal Family’s Representation Dinner in March was postponed.
Royal Palaces are closed until further notice.
UK:
Trooping the Colour is cancelled.
The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall’s visits to Bosnia & Herzegovina, Cyprus and Jordan have been postponed. They were due to take place this month.
The London Marathon, which the Duke of Sussex was expected to attend, has been postponed until October.
Prince George and Princess Charlotte’s school will be moving to an online format.
The Queen’s 2020 Garden Parties have been cancelled.
Maundy Service at St George’s Chapel on 9th April is cancelled.
The Countess of Wessex’s trip to Jersey was cancelled.
The Duke of Sussex’s Invictus Games have been postponed until 2021.
The General Assembly for the Church of Scotland is cancelled for 2020. The Duke of Cambridge was to have been Lord High Commissioner this year.
Investitures are postponed.

Buildings looked after by Historic Royal Palaces are shut from the evening of Friday, March 20th and won’t reopen until the government and health agencies think it’s safe for them to do so – Tower of London, Hampton Court Palace, Kensington Palace, Kew Palace, the Banqueting House and Hillsborough Castle.
The incoming state visit by the Emperor and Empress of Japan has been postponed.
Princess Beatrice’s May wedding reception is cancelled.
The Chelsea Flower show is cancelled. The garden due to be designed by the Duchess of Cambridge will be viewed virtually.
