This autumn is gearing up to be a big one for royal tours, with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge making a visit to Pakistan and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex carrying out a tour of Southern Africa. Now we have news of a third royal tour, with the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall heading to New Zealand.
The couple will visit New Zealand this November and last travelled to the country, which is one of the 53 Commonwealth nations, in 2015. Previously, they visited New Zealand in 2012 to honour The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
“I am delighted to welcome Their Royal Highnesses back to New Zealand,” said Jacinda Ardern, New Zealand’s Prime Minister. “I know that the couple have greatly enjoyed New Zealanders’ warm hospitality and manaakitanga when they visited previously.”
Embed from Getty ImagesArden shared that Prince Charles will be carrying out engagements related to one of his key interests. “The Prince of Wales has been a strong advocate for the environment, conservation and sustainability for many years,” she said. “This visit will provide opportunities for him to engage with New Zealanders on those subjects, and learn more about the ways in which New Zealand is preparing for the future.”
As part of the Commonwealth, New Zealand is a popular location for royal tours. The Queen has visited New Zealand on 10 occasions, and it was the sixth Commonwealth nation she travelled to after her accession to the throne, having spent Christmas 1953 in the country. Her last visit to New Zealand was in 2002.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex visited New Zealand last autumn during their tour of Australia and the Pacific, and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge travelled to New Zealand with a baby Prince George in 2014.
