The Duchess of Sussex has not left her American traditions behind with her move across the pond and joining the Royal Family.
The Duchess is currently in New York City for a short stay with close friends, and those friends are expected to throw Meghan a baby shower today before she returns to the UK on Wednesday.
The baby shower is reportedly taking place at an Upper East Side hotel with 15 people in attendance, according to Harper’s Bazaar.
Omid Scobie reported about the five-day trip to her homeland saying that a source remarked, “It’s been a relaxing visit. Nothing beats face time with your friends. Meg will be flying home refreshed and relaxed—and with a lot of new baby clothes.”
Baby showers are not typically a British custom, but they are extremely common and popular in the United States. It’s only natural that American Meghan has a baby shower of her own like her American counterparts.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s first child (and any other children who follow) will undoubtedly be emersed into both American and British cultures – as the children will be born with both US and UK citizenship.
The Duchess spent time with her close friend, Jessica Mulroney, on Saturday at one of Meghan’s favourite New York restaurants, Ladurée where they were able to privately dine on macarons and tea.
The trip to the Big Apple has been in the works for months, and another source told Harper’s Bazaar, “The trip is a lovely chance to catch up with friends and spend time in a city she loves.
“This will be the last time a lot of them will see Meg until after the baby is born, so it’s nice to share precious moments.”
Her Royal Highness was able to stay under the radar until Monday evening when the Mail acquired exclusive photos of Meghan in the city.
After returning to the UK on Wednesday, the Duchess will soon make one final trip before the birth of her first child. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will undertake a three-day official visit to Morocco from 23 to 25 February. The visit is at the request of Her Majesty’s Government.
