The Crown Prince Couple of Denmark have been in Rome, Italy, for a business trip with the Danish delegation. The tour, which began on 6 November, ends today.
The Royal Danish House explained that the business trip, under the theme ‘Italy – We Think Business’, is focused on “solutions in health, climate change, water and energy, urbanisation and sustainable food production.”
The trip began on Tuesday with military honours and lunch with Italy’s President Sergio Mattarella and his daughter, Laura – who serves as Italy’s First Lady – at the Palazzo del Quirinale presidential palace. They also were able to see artwork in the Palazzo del Quirinale by Danish sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsen before moving on to their next event.
The Crown Prince and Crown Princess next travelled to Terme Di Caracalla where they were taken on a tour before attending a welcome reception with the Danish delegation in the evening.
Rome holds a special meaning for the couple as it is the location where Crown Prince Frederik proposed to the then Mary Donaldson in 2003.
Crown Prince Frederik told the media during a walk through the city, “It’s a special place. It is here that I was told ‘yes’.”
“It is a city full of great memories,” the Crown Princess added.
Wednesday saw a jam-packed schedule for Their Royal Highnesses. In the morning, Crown Prince Frederik attended the seminar “Shaping the Future of Healthcare and Strategic Investments” while Crown Princess Mary attended the “Keynote: The Business of Denmark’s Green Transition” and”Ready for tomorrow’s consumers” seminars.
The couple attended several more seminars and a business lunch during the day before attending a gastro event and cooking show in the evening.
Finally, Their Royal Highnesses attended an official dinner later on last night.
This morning, Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary will travel to the Vatican to meet Pope Francis before visiting the Trevi fountain and the aqueduct Acqua Vergine. Their trip concludes at the Hospital Bambino Gesu where the couple will receive a tour and meet patients.
