New photographs have been released of the Royal Family to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday on Thursday.
Royal Mail will be using the photographs to feature on ten special stamps which will be available to buy on Thursday 21st April.
One of the Stamp Sheets is particularly special as it featured features four generations of the House of Windsor sat together, photographed by Ranald Mackechnie for Royal Mail.
The family portrait was taken in the White Drawing Room of Buckingham Palace in the summer of 2015. Posed in the frame are The Queen, The Prince of Wales, The Duke of Cambridge and Prince George.
Six further stamps have also been issued. Three of these focus on Her Majesty’s family life, and the other three honour the ninety year old’s work life and dedication to the country
The set features images of The Queen: with her father as well as attending the State Opening of Parliament in 2012.
She can also be seen alongside her children, Princess Anne and Prince Charles in 1952, visiting New Zealand in 1977, alongside The Duke of Edinburgh in 1957, as well as being with with Nelson Mandela back in 1996.
The release of he images comes as The Queen and Prince Philip undertake a visit to the Royal Mail Windsor delivery office later today. This visit will mark the Postal Service’s 500th Anniversary.
Photographer Ranald Mackechnie was tasked with taking the photos. One of the difficulties for him was the height difference between the different members of the Royal Family. As such, Prince George can be seen standing on blocks to give him the perfect height.
This is the first time Prince George has featured on a Royal Mail stamp.
You can pre-order the stamps on the Royal Mail website; or visit one of the 8,000 post offices supplying them.
