Viewers blast BBC2 comedy that portrays Duchess of Sussex as ‘trailer trash’

Viewers have blasted BBC2’s comedy programme “Tonight with Vladimir Putin” for portraying the Duchess of Sussex as American trailer trash on the comedy which uses 3D technology to put the cartoons in front of a live audience.

One segment called ‘Meghan Markle’s Royal Sparkle’ was called ‘tone deaf’ and ‘dire’ after it aired by viewers. One watcher claimed it was the worst two minutes of their life after getting through a short clip of the show.

In the show, a cartoon version of the Duchess of Sussex, voiced by Gbemisola Ikunelo, is shown as someone with a violent rage directed at the Duchess of Cambridge with Meghan claiming Kate asking to borrow her hairbrush.

“I say no because that’s gross and then I leave my room and come back and I can tell she’s used my hairbrush anyway because it’s covered in skanky hair that’s going grey and I say, ‘Stay the f*** out of my trailer, or I’ll cut you, Kate’,” the Duchess states.

Of course, the turbulent relationship between Meghan and her father, Thomas was a focus with an audience member asking the Duchess how her dad was, and Meghan remarks, “Great question, next!”

Social media has been full of comments criticising the show with one, Michael JH, saying it felt “like we’ve gone back to the 50s and are being brainwashed with propaganda,” likening it to Black Mirror.

The BBC has defended the show with a spokesperson saying, “Viewers will clearly recognise this performance as a spoof and highly satirical, within the context of a programme which lampoons a wide range of public figures and the public’s perception of them.”

Of course, the show didn’t only focus on the Duchess of Sussex. Besides the host being Russian President Vladimir Putin, it had portrayals of Alastair Campbell, June Sarpong, and Joe Swash.
