The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will carry out a tour of southern Africa this autumn. The visit, being made at the request of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, will cover four countries and will see Harry and Meghan take their new son, Archie, on an official trip for the first time.
The tour will see the family head to South Africa. On the announcement on their official Instagram page, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex said they were looking forward to meeting many people there as well as ”continuing to raise awareness of the high impact work local communities are doing across the commonwealth and beyond”. And the post ended with confirmation of the news that Archie would be travelling with them, adding ”This will be their first official tour as a family!”.
The visit will also see Prince Harry visit three countries by himself. The Duke of Sussex will spend time in Malawi and Angola and he’ll also carry out a short working visit to Botswana which the official announcement said would take place ”on route to the other countries”.
The exact dates for the tour haven’t yet been confirmed and full details of its length and the engagements that the couple will carry out are yet to be revealed.
This will be the third major overseas tour the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have carried out since their marriage. In the autumn of 2018, they visited Australia and New Zealand while earlier this year, they made an official trip to Morocco.
The Duke of Sussex last made an official visit to southern Africa in 2018 while in the summer of 2017, he and Meghan visited Botswana where they took part in conservation projects during a private trip.
