Crown Prince Couple of Serbia attend reception with the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall

Their Royal Highnesses the Crown Prince and Crown Princess of Serbia attended Friday a reception together with the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall. The reception was held in the British Embassy Residence in Athens by HE Ms Kate Smith CMG, the British Ambassador in Greece, in honour of Their Royal Highnesses the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall.

Their Royal Highness Crown Prince Alexander and Crown Princess Katherine are very grateful for the kind invitation of HE Ms Kate Smith CMG, especially since Greece is the country with which the Crown Prince has very strong family connections: HRH Crown Prince Alexander’s grandfather was a Greek king – HM King Alexander of the Hellenes, his mother HM Queen Alexandra was born in Athens, and his grandmother was HRH Princess Aspasia of Greece.

Prince Charles also met the deposed Greek king, Constantine, on his journey in Greece.

The Serbian royals met Prince Charles last during the funeral of King Michael of Romania last year, while in 2016 Prince Charles visited his Serbian friends at the Royal Palace in Belgrade. Then, Prince Charles and the Serbian Royal Family met in the Blue Salon of the Royal Palace, after which Their Royal Highnesses continued their conversation privately.

The Prince of Wales then received a guided tour of the Royal Palace and The White Palace, where he had the opportunity to see the exhibition “Two Royal Families – Historical Ties” about the relations between the British Royal Family and the Serbian Royal Family.

Crown Prince Alexander and Crown Princess Katherine have a very good relationship with the British Royal Family. The Crown Prince was born in London; his godmother is Queen Elizabeth, and he went to school with Prince Charles.

As the Crown Prince himself said when he spoke to Royal Central last summer: “We occasionally meet at Buckingham Palace, or we meet at Windsor Castle. It is a very nice time to talk with her (The Queen). She is extremely knowledgeable and deeply respected. I was also at school with Prince Charles at Gordonstoun in Scotland, and we are very happy that he came to visit us here.”
