Prince Charles is marking a milestone birthday on Wednesday as the Prince of Wales turns 70 years old.
Celebrations have been taking place in honour of his birthday, including a BBC documentary Prince, Son, Heir: Charles at 70 and the We Are Most Amazed and Amused concert hosted by ITV.
On the eve of his big day, new pictures that were taken by Royal Photographer Chris Jackson in the garden at Clarence House in September 2018 and were released to mark the occasion. The pictures feature the Prince of Wales, Duchess of Cornwall, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, with their three children Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
The first photo shows the family posed nicely with Prince George sitting on his grandfather’s lap. The second photo is more candid with the family laughing and the Duchess of Cornwall pointing to the camera in what appears as an attempt to get Princess Charlotte to look the right way. As any parent can tell you, getting three children all sitting still, looking the right way and not making silly faces is always a challenge.
Chris Jackson said: “I was delighted to have been asked to take these portraits of The Prince of Wales surrounded by his family to celebrate the important milestone of his 70th Birthday. It was particularly special to capture such an informal and relaxed family portrait over a fun afternoon in the gardens of Clarence House.”
During Prince, Son, Heir: Charles at 70 a sneak peek of another photo taken at the same time appeared of Charles, Kate and Louis. It gave fans the first glimpse of the young prince since his christening and the indication that there would be more family photos to come.
Another older photo was released for the first time of Prince Charles holding Prince George at his christening on 23 October 2013.
