Prince William mixes fun with his work trip to Africa

The Duke of Cambridge just wrapped up a week-long tour in Africa with a visit to Kenya.

Prince William has been on a “private working trip” due to his role in the conservation organisations, the United for Wildlife group and patron of Tusk.  This trip aimed to highlight illegal wildlife trade before a London conference about the issue takes place this October.

Upon Prince William’s arrival in Nambia on Monday, he toured the work of Save the Rhino in Kunene.  Later he flew to Tanzania where he spoke about measures being taken to counter illegal wildlife trade.  William furthered his understanding the issues facing conservation efforts during his visit to Mkomazi National Park and a rhino sanctuary.  In the past, the Duke of Cambridge has campaigned against the killing of rhinos, elephants and other endangered species.

On the last leg of his trip, Prince William visited Kenya, which is where he proposed to the then Kate Middleton back in 2010.  He commented that the Duchess of Cambridge was “immensely jealous of his trip to Africa, as he would finally get a good night’s sleep away from his wonderful children.”

While in Kenya, Prince William stopped in on the Irish Guards, 1st Battalion at the British Army Training Unit Kenya (BATUK).  Upon stepping off a helicopter, William was met by British High Commissioner to Kenya, Nic Hailey.  After meeting with Kenyan Defense Forces, he joined the Irish Guards for a training session.  It’s great to see Prince William in his element.  He shared stories and chatted with Irish soldiers during the visit.

After his visit to the Irish Guards, he met with a local soccer team at Kinamba.  In a beautiful moment, the Duke of Cambridge met his namesake, William.  The Duke gave out a rare royal hug to his namesake, a departure from the typical handshake most people receive.  This moment surely reminds everyone that the late Princess Diana lives on in William.
