Bon Jovi and Taylor Swift set to perform at the Cambridges’ first royal gala

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will host their first state gala on 26 November to benefit Centrepoint.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will host their first state gala on November 26 to benefit Centrepoint.

Music’s version of royalty will be performing for The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and their guests at the Winter Whites Gala on 26 November.

Rock icon Jon Bon Jovi and country music princess Taylor Swift are headlining the benefit for Centrepoint, a charity that has assisted over 75,000 homeless youth since its foundation in 1969. The Duke has been a patron of Centrepoint since 2005.

The gala event will be a winter wonderland theme. This will be the first event The Duke and Duchess will host in their new home.

“VIP tickets for this glittering gala evening include: Headline performances by Jon Bon Jovi and Grammy winner Taylor Swift, speeches and awards, exceptional buffet, auction hosted by a celebrity guest and carriages from 11:30 pm,” according to the Centrepoint website.

Celebrity guests said to attend include Eliza Doolittle and James Blunt.

Prince William attended the ball alone last year, as The Duchess was convalescing from hyperemesis gravidarum, an extreme form of morning sickness.

As young boys, Prince William and Prince Harry often joined their mother, the late Diana Princess of Wales, on her many visits to Centrepoint of which she herself became a patron in 1992.

In keeping his mother’s legacy at Centrepoint alive, The Duke of Cambridge “takes an active role in all aspects of Centrepoint,” according to the charity’s website.

“Working with young people to discuss their situation, review their personal development plans, sort out their housing benefit claims and find more permanent accommodation, William used his special way of connecting with people from all backgrounds, making them feel at ease.”

The charity made headlines in December 2009 when Prince William slept on the streets with Centrepoint’s CEO, Seyi Obakin, in sub-zero temperatures, in order to gain a better understanding of the plight of the homeless.

Centrepoint is part of the Princes’ Charities Forum, a group of 30 charities that draw support from The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry.

Centrepoint is the top charity in the UK that aids and assists homeless youth. It offers emergency shelter as well as short or long-term hostel accommodations.

In addition to the aforementioned, Centrepoint also offers various support such as health services, training, life skills and employment services to name just a few of the many offerings.

In 2005, Centrepoint was the first charity The Duke of Cambridge chose to become a patron of.
