How does the line of succession look now?

On Saturday 2nd May, the Duchess of Cambridge gave birth to her and Prince William’s second child – Princess Charlotte. The new baby Princess already ranks at 4th-in-line to the throne, and because of royal succession changes only recently implemented, she cannot be ‘overtaken’ by a younger brother, should one be born, in the future.

These royal succession changes also have other consequences. For example, spouses of Catholics who are entitled to succeed are no longer excluded from the line of succession by virtue of this affinity.

Incidentally, the changes also mean only the first six people in the line of succession need the Sovereign’s permission to marry, meaning the birth of the baby Princess removes Princess Beatrice of this requirement.

Royal Central has researched and compiled an extensive, up-to-date line of succession (correct as of 4th May 2015, and to our best knowledge) accounting for all these changes, as well as other births and deaths.

Naturally, we could never have researched the entire line of succession (it runs to almost 6,000 places), however it has been done before. Here is a link to one (which is now four years out of date), though still offers a good overview.
