Sweden’s Princess Estelle, 9, and Prince Oscar, 5, have wished everyone a happy St Lucia Day on the Swedish Royal Family’s Instagram account.
The Royal Court posted an image of the siblings at their home, Haga Palace, standing in front of a Christmas tree. The photo was taken by their mother, Crown Princess Victoria.
The post said: “Happy Lucia wishes from Princess Estelle and Prince Oscar from the family home at Haga Palace.”
The Royal Court also shared archived photographs from the Crown Princess and her siblings, Prince Carl Philip and Princess Madeleine’s childhoods, saying: “Older pictures from the archive of the Queen, Crown Princess, Prince Carl Philip and Princess Madeleine celebrating Lucia 1984.”
St Lucia Day is celebrated annually on 13 December in the Lutheran, Anglican and Roman Catholic churches. In Scandinavian countries, it is marked as an important feast day for St Lucia, and young girls dress in white dresses with red sashes and a wreath of candles on her head. She often carries cookies, like Estelle is doing in the picture shared by the Royal Court.
The Swedish Royal Family is known to send wishes to the public on St Lucia Day on their social media channels, and Crown Princess Victoria’s sister, Princess Madeleine, often shares photos from the United States marking the day.
This will not be the only Christmas wishes released by the Crown Princess Family. They release a family video each December to wish Swedes a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year on the Royal Family’s website and YouTube channel. It is expected to be released in the coming days.
