It’s one of the world’s leading fashion magazines and now its boss in the UK has publicly wished for the Duchess of Sussex as its cover star. The editor in chief at British Vogue has said he wants to put Meghan on the front of his magazine.
Edward Enninful was speaking to the Evening Standard when he revealed his top pick as the next Vogue cover star. He was explaining how much he loves the younger generation of royals when he was asked who had the better sense of style, the Duchess of Cambridge or the Duchess of Sussex. His diplomatic answer was ‘’they are different….I’d love them both to be on the cover of Vogue’’.
While Kate has already nabbed one front cover of the magazine, posing for exclusive photos for its 100th anniversary in 2016, Meghan is yet to make her debut in British Vogue. However, it was reported last year that she turned down the chance to appear in the magazine following her marriage.
For Edward Enninful, who moved to the UK from Ghana when he was two, the Duchess of Sussex is much more than a style icon. He told the Evening Standard that ‘’Meghan is an example of how far we have all come’’. He also told the paper that diversity is key to his future steering of the magazine, adding ‘’I want to change the face of fashion to make it more inclusive’’.
If Meghan does ever take up his offer to appear in Vogue then she’ll be the latest in a long line of royal women to hit its cover. Diana, Princess of Wales was on the magazine’s cover four times (1981, 1991, 1994 and as a tribute in 1997 following her death) while the Princess Royal also graced the front pages with famous images appearing in 1971 and 1973. Crown Princess Mary of Denmark has appeared on the front of Vogue Australia while both Princess Charlene of Monaco and her sister-in-law, Princess Caroline of Hanover, have starred in different editions of the magazine around the world.
