For the first time, Princess Beatrice has received a separate listing in the Court Circular (CC) as published in The Times of London.
In the listing, it states: “Princess Beatrice of York this evening [Monday] attended a Commonwealth Fashion Exchange Reception at Buckingham Palace.”
Previously, the seventh-in-line to the throne only appeared in the Court Circular under another royal’s listing.
The Princess received her own listing in the Court Circular for the first time.
As it was the Duchess of Cambridge and Countess of Wessex who hosted Monday’s reception that Beatrice attended, the CC would have reported the news in one listing.
For example: “On behalf of Her Majesty The Queen, The Duchess of Cambridge and Countess of Wessex this evening held a Commonwealth Fashion Exchange Reception at Buckingham Palace.”
It would then add at the end: “Princess Beatrice of York also attended.”
It is unclear whether this was a deliberate attempt by the palace to give Princess Beatrice a more prominent listing, or whether it was an inadvertent mistake.
Amature historian Cepe Smith, an expert on the Court Circular, said: “I don’t think anything can be read into this regarding Princess Beatrice’s future role, nor do I think it was a deliberate ploy.
“It is more likely that the three offices didn’t think it through or communicate with each other when posting the listing.”
King George III established the Court Circular in order to list all of the official engagements carried out by The Royal Family for the benefit of the press.
Both Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie are not full time working royals.
The Duke of York is known to have lobbied for more active roles for his daughters. However, their royal status lies firmly with the Queen.
