The FBI arrests Ghislaine Maxwell in relation to Epstein case

Ghislaine Maxwell, formerly a close friend of the Duke of York, has been arrested by the FBI.

NBC News reports that Mrs Maxwell was arrested in New Hampshire on charges relating to her friendship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

The 58-year-old faces six charges, including counts of conspiracy to entice minors, transporting minors and perjury.

She will appear in a federal court on Thursday.

Maxwell, a British socialite who was close friends with Prince Andrew, has kept a low profile since Epstein was arrested last July.

Following the allegations against Epstein and his subsequent suicide, Maxwell’s whereabouts were unknown.

Maxwell, daughter of the late media mogul Robert Maxwell, is alleged to have been the person who introduced Prince Andrew to Virginia Giuffre Roberts, one of Epstein’s victims.

Ms Giuffre Roberts claims she had sex with Prince Andrew that night.

The Duke of York strongly denies the allegation, saying he cannot recollect ever meeting Virginia.
