Lawsuit filed against Prince Andrew on allegations of sexual assault

Prince Andrew, Duke of York

A lawsuit has been filed in the United States by Virginia Giuffre which accuses Prince Andrew of sexually abusing her when she was 17-years-old.

Ms Giuffre claims she was a victim convicted sexual abuser Jeffrey Epstein who killed himself in prison in 2019.

The Duke of York has always strenuously denied any allegations of wrongdoing, or that he once had a relationship with her.

The lawsuit, which was filed in a Manhattan court on Monday afternoon, alleges that Prince Andrew sexually abused Ms Giuffre on several occasions when she was under the age of 18.

Speaking to Sky News, David Boies, a lawyer representing Ms Giuffre, said: “In our country, no person, whether President or Prince, is above the law, and no person, no matter how powerless or vulnerable, can be deprived of the law’s protection.

“Over the past five years, Prince Andrew and his advisors have stonewalled every attempt to resolve this matter without litigation. It is now long past the time for him to be held to account.”

In an interview with BBC Newsnight in 2019, Prince Andrew said that he had no recollection of ever meeting Virginia Giuffre.
