William and Catherine prepare to move their family into their ‘forever home’

William and Catherine are set to move into their ‘forever home’ later this year when the Wales Family moves into Forest Lodge in Windsor Great Park.

According to a report in The Sun, the Wales Family are set to move to the eight-bedroom home with the aim to be in by Christmas, and will make it a forever home even after William ascends to the throne.

A Kensington Palace spokesperson confirmed the news, saying that “The Wales family will move house later this year.”

The Sun reports that William and Catherine are funding all the renovations to the residence and will rent it without requiring any funds from public purses. The couple also does not plan to have live-in staff.

Forest Lodge is listed on the Historic England registry as a Grade II building and was built 325 years ago. It is a short distance away from Adelaide Cottage, their current residence, which is a four-bedroom cottage built in 1831 for Queen Adelaide, consort of King William IV.

A source told The Sun that William and Catherine view moving as “an opportunity for a fresh start and a new chapter; an opportunity to leave some of the more unhappy memories behind.”

William and Catherine moved to Adelaide Cottage on the Windsor estate in the summer of 2022, coinciding with their decision to have their children educated at Lambrook School nearby.

It is also the home where Catherine spent her time recuperating from preventative chemotherapy treatments following a cancer diagnosis in March 2024.

According to The Sun’s reporting, William and Catherine presented a renovation request with their local council earlier this summer, for “modest internal and external renovations” that includes doors and windows, and updates to the walls, ceilings and floors, but noted that there are no plans for add-ons or demolitions.

William and Catherine will maintain their home at Amner Hall near the Sandringham Estate and their Apartment 1A at Kensington Palace in London.
