Will The Queen go to Lady Gabriella Windsor’s wedding?

You know what royal weddings are like. You wait years for one, then three come along almost at once. With Lady Gabriella Windsor, daughter of Prince and Princess Michael of Kent, set to tie the knot with Thomas Kingston in May, we will have enjoyed three big marriages within the space of a year. And this latest set of Windsor nuptials might even start the race for wedding number four. Here’s a look at what we know so far about Lady Gabriella Windsor’s wedding.

Will The Queen be there?

The Queen didn’t attend the marriage of Lady Gabriella’s big brother, Lord Frederick Windsor, who wed Sophie Winkleman at Hampton Court Palace in 2009. So the chances of The Queen attending this marriage appear slim but what about other royals?

Princess Eugenie was a guest at Frederick and Sophie’s wedding and is goddaughter to their elder daughter, Maud, who was also one of her bridesmaids in October 2018. She’s almost certain to be there and should her older sister, Beatrice, join her then there will be interest in whether she brings along her boyfriend, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi. The pair recently made their first official public appearance together and stepping out as a couple at this big Windsor event would be a potential sign of another royal wedding to come.

Prince Charles, Prince William and Prince Harry all missed Gabriella’s brother’s wedding but given that Lord Frederick Windsor’s older daughter, Maud, is at Thomas School in Battersea with Prince George, speculation is growing that the Cambridges might well be there not least because of chatter that their first born and his sister, Princess Charlotte, could feature in the bridal party. Thomas Kingston is also friends with Pippa Middleton (they briefly dated) and attended her marriage to James Matthews so even if we don’t see the Duchess of Cambridge at this do, we will almost certainly see her sister.

Lady Gabriella was also linked in the European press, for a while, with King Felipe VI of Spain. She knows the younger generation of the Greek Royal Family, too, and was a guest at the marriage of Prince Nikolaos and Princess Tatiana in 2010 (also attended by Felipe and Letizia) as well as taking part in the celebrations for the marriage of his older sister, Princess Alexia. And that could mean we see a number of European royals at this latest Windsor wedding.

What we do know is that Gabriella and Tom Kingston have said they want their wedding to be a family affair, but given its lower key status, we may have to wait until the big day itself to find out who’s had to buy a toaster.

When and where the wedding will take place

There’s a royal save the date for Saturday, May 18th 2019 (also FA Cup Final day which could rule out Prince William’s attendance) and we know that the couple have chosen to say ‘I do’ at St George’s Chapel, Windsor.

Their reception will take place at Frogmore House at Windsor, where Harry and Meghan and Eugenie and Jack held their evening wedding parties.

The happy couple themselves

Royal guests aside, the stars of the day will be the bride and groom themselves. Lady Gabriella Windsor, who turns 38 in April this year, is a first cousin once removed of The Queen and currently 51st in line to the throne.

She’s got a pretty impressive CV, graduating from Brown University and working as a feature writer before taking up the role of senior director at brand positioning platform, Branding Latin America.

Thomas Kingston is a graduate of Bristol University and now works in finance. He is currently a Director of Devenport Capital. And as the final countdown to his latest royal wedding continues, Royal Central will bring you the latest news.
