The Princess of Wales has been described as “very open-hearted” by a new member of the Royal Family, who has revealed what Catherine is like away from the cameras.
Harriet Phillips, who married Peter Phillips in June, has offered a rare glimpse into her relationship with the future Queen, describing her as someone she would feel comfortable approaching for personal advice and guidance.
In her first interview since marrying Princess Anne’s son, Mrs Phillips spoke warmly about Catherine, revealing that she felt able to turn to her if she ever needed help.
“I can look to Catherine for advice and guidance,” she told HELLO!. “She’s very open-hearted, and I would always feel comfortable asking her if I needed advice about something.”
The comments offer an insight into the personal relationships developing within the Royal Family as Harriet settles into married life with Peter.
The Princess of Wales away from the public eye
Catherine is one of the most recognisable members of the Royal Family, regularly undertaking public engagements, meeting world leaders and representing the monarchy at major occasions.
But Harriet’s description offers a more personal perspective, suggesting that behind the formal appearances and public responsibilities is someone she feels comfortable approaching.
Her description of the Princess as “very open-hearted” is particularly telling, as she spoke about the possibility of seeking advice from her.
While Harriet did not go into detail about the conversations they have shared, her comments suggest that Catherine has made a positive impression on her.
The relationship also comes at a time when both women have an interest in issues affecting children and families.
A shared passion for children’s wellbeing
Mrs Phillips has recently taken on a new charitable role after stepping away from a 24-year career in the NHS.
She has been appointed patron of Home-Start Cotswolds, an organisation supporting parents and families which she previously worked alongside during her time as a specialist nurse in Gloucestershire.
Harriet explained that her professional experience had helped develop a growing passion for promoting healthy brain development.
She hopes to use her new position to help ensure parents and practitioners have the knowledge and support needed to give children the best possible start in life.
This area of interest has clear parallels with Catherine’s own work.
The Princess of Wales has made early childhood development a central focus of her public work, championing the importance of the early years and the influence of relationships and environments on children’s futures.
Their shared interest provides common ground between the two women, although Harriet did not specifically link it to her decision to seek Catherine’s advice.
A warm welcome into the Royal Family
Harriet also spoke about her first meeting with her mother-in-law, Princess Anne, which took place at Gatcombe Park.
She recalled sitting with the Princess Royal in the gardens, enjoying cups of tea in what she described as a relaxed and welcoming encounter.
Mrs Phillips expressed admiration for Anne’s extraordinary work ethic and her dedication to charitable causes.
She said the Princess Royal had genuine interests which she followed with commitment and was someone who was deeply respected within the family.
Her comments offered another glimpse into the relationships she has formed since becoming part of the wider Royal Family.
An insight into life with the Royal Family
Peter Phillips and Harriet’s relationship began in early 2022 after their daughters met through a hockey team.
Their romance developed through ordinary family activities, including dog walks, pub suppers and cooking together at home.
They married in June in a ceremony attended by the King and Queen, alongside other members of the Royal Family.
Harriet described the wedding as the happiest day of her life, apart from the birth of her daughter.
