The Duchess of Cambridge and her family, have been the inspiration for the latest watch from Delance.
Delance this year celebrates its twentieth anniversary, and their founder and designer Giselle Rufer has come up with a clever design which reflects the birth of the two Royal children; George and Charlotte.
The blue mother-of-pearl dial of the watch sits within a swirling stainless steel mount; two small blue sapphires are placed on the dial to represent the times when each of the Royal children were born 4:24 and 8:34. Whilst at the bottom of the dial is a larger blue sapphire encased in a tighter swirl, this reflects the love between the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
Owners of the watch can choose either a stainless steel bracelet to match the mount, or a blue leather strap to reflect the sapphires contained within the mount. Similarly, it is available with either a quartz or wind-up movement, and for those owners who wish to dive from their yachts, it is guaranteed up to depths of 30m.
Delance was founded in 1996 by Giselle Rufer and the aim has always been to unite superb Swiss craftsmanship with the élan and chic of French design to create a watch for women that has been designed and made by women. Giselle has said: “Being a woman is wonderful, is magic, is mysterious. Gather your courage and be all that you can be!” It therefore seems appropriate that she has designed a watch based on the Duchess who has always strived to look smart and elegant on all royal occasions.
Giselle has also received many awards for both her work and her empowerment of women from all over the world. In 2004, the American Biographical Institute awarded her a “Woman of the Year” medal for her social contribution and professional success. In her home country of Switzerland, she also won the “Woman Entrepreneur of the Year” award in 2008.
