Prince William will not be attending Lady Gabriella Windsor’s wedding this weekend. The 38-year-old is set to tie the knot at St George’s Chapel on Saturday. However, the Duke of Cambridge has his hands tied with another commitment, the FA Cup final.
A statement from the palace said: “The Duke of Cambridge, President of the FA will attend the 2019 FA Cup Final between Manchester City and Watford at Wembley Stadium, and will present the trophy to the winners.”
A passionate football supporter and Aston Villa fan, William missed the final last year due to his brother, Prince Harry’s wedding in which he married Meghan Markle. Falling on the same day, William stood by his brother’s side as best man.
Lady Gabriella was not in attendance at Prince Harry’s wedding last year. It has yet to be confirmed as to whether the Duchess of Cambridge will attend the wedding. Her sister Pippa Middleton is predicted to attend as she is a close friend of the groom, financier Thomas Kingston.
Thomas is said to have met Pippa through mutual friends and that they struck up a romance in 2011. The two have remained pals since the romance fizzled. Thomas and Lady Gabriella attended Pippa’s wedding to James Matthews in 2017.
Lady Gabriella is currently 52nd in line for the throne. The bride’s father, Prince Michael of Kent is The Queen’s cousin, making Lady Gabriella her first cousin once removed. There has been confirmation that The Queen will attend the wedding.
This will be the third royal wedding in Windsor within the past year. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex married last May, while Princess Eugenie married Mr Jack Brooksbank back in October.
The wedding will take place at noon and will be conducted by the Dean of Windsor. Lady Gabriella and Mr Kingston became engaged in August of 2018.
