Prince & Princess of Wales

Earthshot 2023 takes off as Prince William touches down in Singapore

The Prince of Wales arrived in Singapore over the weekend for the annual Earthshot Prize awards, receiving a king’s welcome at the Changi Airport.

William paid a visit to the Jewel, an entertainment and shopping complex connected to one of the airport’s terminals, where he met members of the public who have gathered for the third edition of the Earthshot Prize.

The prince shared in a statement: “It’s fantastic to be back in Singapore for this year’s Earthshot Prize ceremony, after 11 years. Singapore’s bold vision to be a leader for environmental innovation sets the standard for others to follow. I am grateful to the Singaporean people for hosting us this week. Let us all take inspiration from the fantastic work being done here as we celebrate this year’s Earthshot Prize finalists.”

The Prince of Wales received a warm welcome from a large crowd including from eight month old baby, Albane, who grabbed the finger of the heir to the throne while giggling at him.

This year also marks the first-ever ‘Earthshot Week’, where prize winners and finalists, global leaders, businesses and investors will convene to discuss their solutions and scale-up their initiatives to help repair the planet.

William will attend a host of events this week in support of the Earthshot Prize, including visiting the EcoLabs at Nanyang Technological University on Tuesday and attending an Earthshot+ Summit at Park Royal Pickering on Wednesday.

Kensington Palace shared a video of William’s arrival to social media, with the caption: “Wonderful to see you all this evening, Singapore! Thank you for hosting us for the third annual #EarthshotPrize here this week. We can’t wait to highlight sustainability successes from across Asia (and beyond!) and support innovative solutions to our planet’s greatest challenges.”
