Prince & Princess of Wales

The Duchess of Cambridge speaks of the pain of pandemic separations

During a visit to Sybil Strachan Primary School in Nassau, the Duchess of Cambridge got candid about the pain many people have felt when separating from their loved ones during the global health crisis.

It has been a little over two years since the coronavirus pandemic began. The Duchess acknowledged the difficulties students across the world faced when learning from home and how it was tough on her own kids, Prince George (8) and Princess Charlotte (6), as their classes went virtual over the past two years.

“One of the hardest things that we have all found about the pandemic was being separated from the people we love. But we have also had the chance to rediscover just how important our families are, and just how important our friends are too.

The Duchess went on to add: “I always think it is the simple things in life that bring us the most joy: Playing together, chatting to your friends at school, eating meals together, and listening to each other’s stories. These are the things that bring us together and give meaning to our lives.

“The connections, the relationships and the friendships that you make during school are so special. So please look after them, cherish them and take time for them. And remember to be kind, and understanding and loving to yourself and others.”

George and Charlotte have since returned to Thomas’s Battersea school after learning virtually. As for Prince Louis, he is attending nursery school. As they take off time for the Easter holiday, George has been tracking his parents’ international trip by sticking pins on a map and sharing it with his siblings. At a reception in Belize, the Duke of Cambridge shared: “We let them know where we are, and he finds us on the map and puts a pin in it and shares with the others.”

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will return home to England and their children this weekend. Their tour of the Caribbean was in part of the celebrations surrounding the Platinum Jubilee.
