King Charles IIIPrince & Princess of Wales

Unity photo released by Buckingham Palace

Buckingham Palace has released a new photo of King Charles, Queen Camilla and the Prince and Princess of Wales.

The photo was taken in Buckingham Palace on 18 September ahead of the evening reception for Heads of State and Official Overseas Guests in London for the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II.

This is the first official photograph release of Their Majesties with the Prince and Princess of Wales since the death of Queen Elizabeth on 8 September.

The image shows the bond between the King and Queen and Prince and Princess of Wales and the unity of the Royal Family going forward. The Prince and Princess of Wales are expected to step up their roles now that William is the heir to the throne.

It has long been said that Charles wants a slimmed-down monarchy, and this photo shows the main royals who will be supporting him in his role as King.

Charles immediately succeeded his mother to the British throne upon her death; he named William Prince of Wales in his first televised speech to the nation on 9 September.
