The King is poised to visit France on an official State Visit following an invitation from President Emmanuel Macron.
According to the Daily Telegraph, plans are underway with the details still being finalised in what will be King Charles III’s first State Visit.
The newspaper reports that the visit could occur ‘as soon as next month’ with His Majesty likely to travel on to Germany afterwards.
The UK has not been the recipient of a State Visit in seven years due to the heavy decrease in overseas travel by Her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
It is thought that the Foreign Office is keen for the monarch to visit France and use the ‘soft-power’ of monarchy to build better relations between the European neighbours.
Although he is unable to be active on causes close to his heart, the visit will likely focus on the environment – an issue the King and President Macron have bonded over.
The Telegraph reports that the visit could include a trip to an exhibition about the Great Green Wall project – a scheme in Africa which aims to plant a 30-mile-wide belt of trees across the entire continent.
President Macron said: “I had the opportunity to invite King Charles to come to France when it is appropriate for him.
“I think the British people and the King felt France’s deep affection for them and the emotion we shared.”
President Macron and his wife, Brigitte, attended the State Funeral of Queen Elizabeth II in Westminster Abbey on Monday.
Before returning to London from Paris, it is thought His Majesty might visit Germany – one of the very last countries his mother visited with Prince Philip back in 2015.
Looking further ahead, The King will travel to Realms of the Commonwealth next year. He was only in Canada a few months ago as they prepared to mark the Platinum Jubilee, so it is likely Australia and New Zealand will be high on the priority list – countries the 73-year-old last visited in 2018.
