The Duchess of Cornwall hosts a star-studded 70th birthday party at Clarence House

The Duchess of Cornwall opened up the grounds of Clarence House today for friends and charities as she hosted a special Garden Party to celebrate her 70th birthday.

Camilla, who turns 70 next week, put on the party for the charities she supports. However, lots of celebrities were also present to with Her Royal Highness a Happy Birthday.

Among the guests were actress Joanna Lumley, TV presenter Paul O’Grady, and ballerina & Strictly Come Dancing Judge, Darcey Bussell.

Next week, the Duchess will also host a private birthday party at Highgrove House with no media present.

Despite becoming a septuagenarian on Monday, Camilla’s birthday will be a low-key affair full of celebration.

One reason for the down to earth festivities may be because her summer birthday falls just a month before the 20th anniversary of Diana, Princess of Wales death on 31 August. Having a lavish celebration would be seen by many as disrespectful, and although Camilla has been a member of the Royal Family for 12 years now, she still needs to tread lightly protecting her image with the public.

Speaking to The Sun a couple of months ago, the Duchess said: “I think what we will do is have a tea party.

“We will get them to bake a cake together and we will have a singsong of Happy Birthday.”

Family has always played a big part in her life, and she testifies it to her happiness.

“Obviously my husband, my family, my friends and to see my grandchildren when they are all playing together and happy,” she said when asked what brings her joy. “When I come back from a trip, that first moment I see them with their sweet faces gives me such joy.”
