The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall are set to pay a joint visit to Australia and New Zealand in November. This will be the couple’s second visit to the Land Down Under since The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations – they previously visited both country’s in November 2012.
Charles and Camilla will visit Australia and New Zealand in November.
Following the announcement of the news by Clarence House, Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott said he was delighted about the upcoming Royal Visit. “Recent visits by Prince Harry and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have further strengthened the relationship between Australia and the United Kingdom,” he said in a statement.
Indeed, they have. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s visit to Australia along with their young son Prince George in April 2014 garnered massive media interest and large crowds turned out to catch a glimpse of the small family as they toured the various sights and attractions.
Prince Harry also spent time in Australia during a month-long posting with the Australian Army in May, where he visited a number of sights including the Australian War Memorial in Canberra. Prince Charles later commented about his second son’s trip, saying: “I suspect my old Harry is pretty well acclimatised by now and will probably be eating lamingtons, Vegemite sandwiches, Iced VoVos and Violet Crumble bars – and may even be threatening to buy a pair of budgie smugglers.”
Tom Parker-Bowles, The Duchess of Cornwall’s son from her first marriage, recently returned to the UK after spending three months in Bondi. He said that both his mum and step-father gave him advice about what the see and do in Australia, and admitted that the Royal Family shares a very close bond with the country. “I think there’s a deep connection between the royal family – of which I’m very much not part – and Australia and it’s not forced or confected,” he said.
Later today, Prince Charles and Camilla will attend the christening of their granddaughter, Princess Charlotte, at St Mary Magdalene Church in Sandringham.
