Fresh details of Charles and Camilla’s Jubilee tour of Canada revealed

As members of the Royal Family continue to tour parts of the UK and the Commonwealth in honour of the Platinum Jubilee, more details about the upcoming tour to Canada from the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall have been revealed.

Their Royal Highnesses will visit the country from 17 to 19 May. On the tour, Charles and Camilla will travel more than 2000 miles from the easternmost province, Newfoundland and Labrador, to the Northwest Territories in Northern Canada. The couple will visit Canada’s capital region which will include a special reception to mark The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

The first stop of the tour will be in St John’s, Newfoundland, and Labrador. As they arrive, they will be welcomed by local school children, community groups as well as dignitaries and provincial representatives. There will be a ceremony that will include the province’s tradition of song and story alongside indigenous performances. The event is also expected to include an inspection of the Guard of Honour while the Prince gives a speech.

Following the welcome, the Prince and Duchess will meet with indigenous leaders at Government House. They will lay a bronze marker at the start of Government House’s new Commonwealth Walkway which is a Platinum Jubilee community project. To finish their tour of the region, the Prince and Duchess will visit the harbour neighbourhood of Quidi Vidi, meeting with members of the local food and fishing industries.

On day two, the royals will find themselves in Ottawa where the Prince and Duchess will join the Governor General at the National War Memorial to remember Canadians who lost their lives in service. They will also meet with members and organizations from the Ukrainian community to take part in a traditional prayer service as well as learn how the country is helping support the people of Ukraine.

On the final day of the tour, the Prince and Duchess will be in the Northwest Territories to visit Yellowknife and Dettah. Engagements on this day include visiting Canadian Rangers to mark the organisation’s 75th anniversary and a Ceremonial CIrcle for a Platinum Jubilee Celebration.

This will be the 19th visit to the country for the Prince, and the 5th for the Duchess. The couple last toured the country together back in 2017 to mark the 150th anniversary of Confederation with Canadians.

As for Her Majesty, who is Head of the Commonwealth, she is the first British and Canadian Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee. The Queen’s 22nd and last tour of Canada was in 2010 when she visited Halifax, Nova Scotia, the National Capital Region, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Toronto, Ontario, and Kitchener-Waterloo. Canada is the country most visited by The Queen during her reign.

Royal Central will be covering the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall’s visit to Canada.
