Volunteers and service to others made focus of Coronation celebrations

The celebrations for the Coronation of King Charles III will come to an end with a day dedicated to volunteering.

The Big Help Out will take place on May 8th 2023 and will encourage people to come out and support the causes that matter to them. Local community groups and big organisations including the RNLI and the Royal Voluntary Service are already planning events.

The focus will be on the positive impact volunteering has on communities across the nation. It is aimed at honouring King Charles III’s lifetime of service.

It’s being organised by the Together Coalition. Its Chief Executive, Jon Knight, said it will be ”a festival of volunteering” and ”a day when people up and down the country will roll up their sleeves and do their bit.”

May 8th 2023 is the Bank Holiday created by the government in honour of the Coronation of King Charles and Queen Camilla.

The Big Help Out will round off three days of celebrations that will start with The King’s Procession to Westminster Abbey for the Coronation on May 6th 2023.

On May 7th, tens of thousands of street parties will take place across the country, organised as part of the Big Lunch. There will also be a Coronation Concert at Windsor Castle that evening while as night falls, landmarks across the UK will be illuminated.

King Charles III and Queen Camilla will be crowned by the Archbishop of Canterbury on May 6th 2023.
