The year of two Monarchs comes to an end

The year 2022 has left its mark on royal history. The past twelve months have changed much and the United Kingdom has lived under the reign of two Monarchs.

Elizabeth II’s record breaking rule reached another magnificent milestone as 2022 began. Her Late Majesty became the only British Monarch to reign for 70 years on February 6th 2022. She marked the moment in her usual style, with a statement signed ”Your Servant, Elizabeth R.”

That reign ended, unexpectedly, on September 8th 2022. Elizabeth II died peacefully at Balmoral. And in that instant her Crown passed, silently, to the longest serving heir in British history. For the first time in seven decades, Britain was ruled by a King.

Charles III’s reign began with a tour of the UK and a host of world leaders arriving in London to pay tribute to Queen Elizabeth II.

The year 2022 ends with The King calmly in control of the Monarchy. A new era for an ancient institution and a year of two reigns for the United Kingdom.
