The world’s most famous Monarchy sees a celebration year threatened by storms

There is not another Monarchy anywhere in the world that constantly grabs the headlines more than the British one,. In the past few weeks, that appears to be more true than ever.

The House of Windsor might be the most famous royal house in the world, but away from public scrutiny and behind closed Palace doors, there is s a family. And, right now, it’s facing a string of controversies that threaten to reset its image in a way no one wants.

After a tumultuous few years, it was perhaps fitting to hope that the dark days for the royal family were finally over. Yet as the Platinum Jubilee year began, the problems have continued to mount up.

As The Queen marks her Platinum Jubilee , the celebrations are a reminder of her strength as Monarch but her dynasty is looking somewhat more troubled. Whilst ’ regards and affection towards Elizabeth II is unwavering, the Windsors as a whole cannot afford to make another faux pas. The latest controversies pose a threat that shows no signs of abating yet.

Since it was created with the stroke of a pen by George V, the House of Windsor has seen its fair share of problems but has continued even while other great dynasties have fallen. It was forged in wartime and has weathered great storms.

The modern British royal family has survived World Wars as well as radical social, political, and economic changes which have reshaped modern Britain. It has always managed to hold secure its place in Britain. Now, its role is coming under intense scrutiny and it is some of those who are charged with taking it forward who find their present conduct under question. The case which saw Prince Andrew accused of sexual assault (allegations he denied) and which he settled out of court was followed by an announcement that police would investigate claims of cash for honours at the Prince’s Foundation set up by Prince Charles. Royal aides have always said that the Prince of Wales had no knowledge of any of the activities under scrutiny. Meanwhile, Prince Harry is taking HM Government to court over police protection.

All that has led to questions about what will happen to the House of Windsor once The Queen is no longer there to steer the ship. Elizabeth II presides over an unprecedented reign. The scrutiny over the actions of those who follow her is threatening to cast a shadow over the most historic moment of all, her Platinum Jubilee. What will the future bring for the House of Windsor?
