New stamps for the Platinum Jubilee show The Queen’s 70 year reign

New stamps marking The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee are now winging their way around the world as they come into use.

The eight stamps, released in the month that Her Majesty became the first British Monarch to rule for 70 years, are on sale at Post Offices around the UK and have already been used on millions of letters.

They show The Queen at eight points in her historic reign, with the earliest photo taken from 1957 and the most recent being a snap from early 2020, just before the pandemic got under way. Among the pictures chosen are one taken during a walkabout in her Silver Jubilee year of 1977 and another from 1978 depicting Her Majesty saluting during Trooping the Colour.

The stamps are available as first class for regular use as well as larger value stamps costing Ā£1.70 each. Royal Mail has also produced a range of souvenirs featuring the stamps including a First Day Cover (Ā£12.90) and a set of postcards (Ā£3.60).

The Queen marked her Platinum Jubilee on February 6th 2022 but the main events celebrating her seven decades of rule will take place in June 2022.
