Buckingham Palace has confirmed more details of the State Funeral of Queen Elizabeth II.
It will take place in London on September 19th 2022 with over 200 world leaders in attendance.
The day will begin with a tributes before dawn breaks and end with a private service by twilight when Elizabeth II will be laid to rest. Here are the details of the funeral so far.
Monday 19th September, early hours
The Lying in State of Queen Elizabeth II continues in the early hours of September 19th 2022. The doors at Westminster Hall will close at 6.30am. Officials will stop the queue before that to ensure everyone waiting has a chance to pay their last respects to Her Late Majesty.
Monday 19th September, morning
10.44 am – the coffin of Queen Elizabeth II will be taken in procession from Westminster Hall to Westminster Abbey. The journey will take eight minutes. Her Late Majesty will be conveyed on the State Gun Carriage which was first used at the funeral of Queen Victoria.
10.52am – the coffin of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II arrives at Westminster Abbey
11.00 am – the State Funeral of Queen Elizabeth II begins at Westminster Abbey
11.55 am – a two minute silence is held as the State Funeral concludes
Monday 19th September, afternoon
Just after 12pm – the Funeral Procession of Her Late Majesty recommences from Westminster Abbey. The coffin of Queen Elizabeth II will be taken along the Mall and past Buckingham Palace one final time before arriving at the Wellington Arch.
Approx 1pm – the coffin of Queen Elizabeth II will be placed in a hearse and driven to Windsor. It is expected the journey will take around 2 hours
Monday 19th September, late afternoon
4pm – A Service of Committal will be held at St. George’s Chapel, Windsor
Monday 19th September, early evening
It is expected that Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II will be laid to rest that evening in the King George VI Memorial Chapel at St. George’s Chapel, Windsor in a private ceremony attended by family.
Queen Elizabeth II died on September 8th 2022 at Balmoral. She was 96 years old and had reigned for 70 years.
