The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee under a new spotlight

The Queen’s outfits from the Platinum Jubilee are going on show together for the first time.

Less than a month after they were all first revealed to the world, her picks for her two historic appearances on the balcony of Buckingham Palace have become part of a new display at Holyroodhouse Palace in Edinburgh.

The pale blue coat and hat worn after Trooping the Colour on June 2 2022, the first day of her celebratory weekend, as well as the emerald green ensemble chosen for the final royal appearance of the Jubilee, on June 5 2022, will be on show over the summer.

The Platinum Jubilee outfits are part of a new Jubilee exhibition which also includes a first chance to see the coat and hat worn by The Queen for the Service of Thanksgiving at the Diamond Jubilee. Perhaps the most famous of Elizabeth II’s Jubilee dresses, the bright pink worn for her Silver celebrations in 1977, is also on show.

The exhibition, put on by the Royal Collection Trust, also includes items relating to The Queen’s first official visit to Edinburgh following her Coronation. Her Majesty came to the Scottish capital just days after she was crowned when a Service of Thanksgiving was held at St. Giles’ Cathedral.

The brand new Jubilee display, the first of three put on by the RCT this summer, opens on July 3, just days after Holyrood Week came to a close. During her time in Edinburgh, The Queen saw an Act of Loyalty from the Armed Forces and attended the Reddendo Parade alongside her heir, the Duke of Rothesay.

The Platinum Jubilee exhibition runs until September 25 2022 and admission is included in the ticket price for a visit to Holyroodhouse.
