The Queen is to miss the Service of Thanksgiving for her reign at St. Paul’s Cathedral in London after experiencing some discomfort during the first day of Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
In a brief statement, Buckingham Palace said ”The Queen greatly enjoyed today’s Birthday Parade and Flypast but did experience some discomfort. Taking into account the journey and activity required to participate in tomorrow’s National Service of Thanksgiving at St Paul’s Cathedral, Her Majesty with great reluctance has concluded that she will not attend.”
However, Her Majesty will still attend the ceremony where she will symbolically light the Jubilee beacon at Windsor Castle.
Attendance at the Cathedral would have meant another journey from Windsor to London. Following the Service, the Royal Family is due to attend a reception at the Guildhall hosted by the Lord Mayor of London.
The Queen appeared twice on the balcony of Buckingham Palace after Trooping the Colour but the review of troops and the salute at the parade ground was carried out on her behalf by the Prince of Wales.
