The Queen Holds Audience With Scotland’s First Minister

The Queen is currently in Scotland for Holyrood Week, a week where the Royal Family celebrates Scottish communities, culture, and achievements. While in Edinburgh, Her Majesty met with Scotland’s First Minister Nicola Sturgeon. As the movement for Scottish independence is once again growing in popularity, this was an important meeting.

The Queen and Nicola Sturgeon met at the Palace of Holyroodhouse, the Monarch’s official Edinburgh residence. It was a socially distanced audience, but The Queen looked to be enjoying herself. Throughout the audience, she was seen smiling as she talked with the First Minister, and animatedly waving her arms.

Both women were wearing blue for the meeting, a colour strongly associated with Scotland. Given that Nicola Sturgeon expressed unhappiness with the Palace over the royal train tour in December of 2021, this meeting looked to be far more positive.

After meeting with the First Minister, The Queen then received the Presiding Officer of the Scottish Parliament, Alison Johnstone.

Her Majesty has been joined in Scotland by the Duke of Cambridge. The pair visited the AG Barr’s factory together, where loved Scottish soft drink Irn Bru is produced. Prince William is carrying out other engagements, before returning to London. The Princess Royal will be joining her mother for the second part of Holyrood Week.
