The Queen agrees to Service of Thanksgiving for Prince Philip

Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh

A Service of Thanksgiving for Prince Philip will be held at Westminster Abbey in the spring of 2022.

The Queen has given the go ahead to the service which will take place around the time of the first anniversary of his death.

Family, friends and representatives of some of the many organisations he was involved with are expected to attend.

It’s also believed the Service will be televised, allowing people around the world to join in the tribute.

The Queen’s decision was announced as the first picture of her Christmas speech was shared. The address is expected to be more personal than usual and pay tribute to Prince Philip.

Her Majesty has recorded the message in the White Drawing Room at Windsor Castle. She is seen sitting by a photograph of the two of them on their Diamond Wedding anniversary in the image Buckingham Palace has shared ahead of the broadcast.

HRH The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh died on April 9th 2021 at Windsor Castle.
