King Charles has met veterans of the Korean War at Buckingham Palace.
The audience marked seven decades since the end of the conflict.
His Majesty listened to the military men’s experiences of the war during the meeting.
It marked a return to larger scale audiences for The King who has confined himself to smaller meetings or phone calls around his constitutional duties since beginning treatment for cancer earlier this year.
The meeting is also the latest in a series of events which has seen the Royal Family mark the end of the Korean War. In 2023, the 70th anniversary of the cessation of fighting, the Duke of Gloucester took part in commemorations during which he said ”the legacy of the Korean War is important, and remains relevant, for our next generation.”
Over 60,000 personnel from Britain and the Commonwealth served in the conflict which saw active fighting between 1950 and 1953.
Often called the ”Forgotten War”, it claimed the lives of over 1,100 British military.
Commemorations for the end of the war continue later when the Princess Royal and the Duchess of Edinburgh host a special reception at Buckingham Palace on behalf of King Charles.
